Celebrate the Successes of FPCPL at the May Annual Meeting
It is once again time for the Friends’ Annual Meeting, a time to celebrate this past year, prepare for the next, and elect the 2008- 2009 Board of Directors. It is also an occasion to get reacquainted with old friends, enjoy an entertaining program and savor a delicious
lunch. Please join us on Thursday, May 15, at 11:30 am at the historic Manning House, 450 W. Paseo Redondo. Not quite old enough to be historical, but certainly humorous,
our guest speaker will be David Fitzsimmons. As the Arizona Daily Star political cartoonist, Fitz has been drawing cartoons and fire since 1986. A 1988 Pulitzer Prize Finalist, he has received the Arizona Press Club First Place Award for cartooning for the last eight years. Fitzsimmons claims to be the “fastest pen west of the Potomac” and a “flaming moderate at the vital fringe of America’s center.” This combination promises a memorable afternoon. Fitzsimmons also reports being considered a “snappy dresser” and says he enjoys gardening, reading hate mail from irritated readers, yelling at the T.V. and making his kids laugh. Although our speaker will have a lot to share and will be doodling as he visits with us, he promises not to tell the location of his “born to doodle” tattoo. We will, however, be able to check out his fashion statement. Paid reservations may be made either by mail or directly at the Book Barn & are due by May 6. The special luncheon price for Friends members is $15; other guests, $18. (Individual membership in FPCPL is $20; a Family Membership is $30.)
You will find a reservation form and directions to the Manning House on page 5 of the May Newsletter which you can download here in Acrobat Format
Please RSVP by May 6 to ftppl@qwestoffice.net or 795-3763

Book Sales in Libraries
Now you can “Buy the Book” at the Murphy - Wilmot Library branch, 530 N. Wilmot Road. In an area provided by the library, the Friends have set up a retail space with books, DVDs, and audio books. These are current releases or classic favorites in very good condition that have been donated to Friends. The books can be purchased anytime the library is open and sales operate on an honor system
Friends also sells books year round online and at library locations at River Road and the new space at on Wilmot Road. Due to the success of the River Road book cart, we were encouraged to open up other sites that were interested. Two more branches, Nanini and Catalina, are setting up to open retail space by August 1st.
Thanks to Marcia Winick, David Ellington, Phyllis, and Jo Reister for their hard work in setting up and maintaining these retail spaces.
Mission Accomplished!
For the fiscal year 2006-2007, Friends donated $216,000 to the Pima County Public Library. Well Done! This is what’s it all about, after all. Outstanding book sale revenues, online sales, and off-site sales combined with membership dues and donations to make this a banner year in contributions. Thank you EVERYONE!
